Geography…not so boring March 19, 2008Posted by richards in Uncategorized.
So far in 11th class, I’ve never regarded our geography lessons as interesting and pleasant, but our geography lesson today was really very interesting. We watched a BBC’s movie about the water, precipitations, storms, etc. Although the film was related to geography and the earth as a whole, I liked it very much and I think almost all of my classmates liked it, too. The film contained both scientific and comedic things, so it kept our attention during the whole class.Furthermore, our class is noisy as a whole, but during the movie, everybody was quiet, watching the filming and enjoying its useful information and interesting effects. This was probably one of the most pleasant classes, I’ve had soon, so it really impressed me very much.
At the beginning of the lesson, the teacher asked us: ’What do you choose: teaching you about Pirin ( a mountain in Bulgaria), or watching movie?’. We all preferred watching movie, since almost nobody likes/wants to know about the geology of Pirin, its highest peaks and their height; its types of rocks, etc.I think we made very good choice. The film was really interesting, amazing, impressive and also useful and informational.
I think it’s the way that we both study and have fun. We learned a lot of the things from the movie, and at the same time, we were very interested, which helps us remember the lesson more easily. In fact, watching moves is a kind of hobby, or thing, we do in our free time, so when we watched it, we as though were not in school. We just imagined that we’re somewhere else with many friends around, watching interesting movie, which taught us a lot of things. And the interesting thing is that I remember the film very clearly and learned the things, described there. Instead of being sleepy and bored, listening to what is the length and structure of Pirin, I was very concentrated and interested in the film. Big advantage of the movies are their visual-sound effects, which just grasp our interest. We not only imagine, but also see and hear what is going on in a thunder. We saw many interesting scenes of natural disasters, and there were also very funny scenes :D.In this lesson, I realized something important: The way, in which a lesson runs (протича), determines the attitude of the students to the subject to big degree. Even the noisiest students were concentrated and silent during the movie, although they are very bored and careless in the other lessons.I was also very pleasantly-affected and impressed by this lesson, so although I’ve never been interested in geography, I liked it very much today and that subject made me feel good and relaxed. Whether we like or dislike a subject depends on the way, the teachers teach us to big degree.
I think that it’s good idea if in all our lessons, at least in geography, we watch movie – then we’ll both learn new and interesting things, and we’ll have fun. It’s such pleasure…watching interesting and useful film with your 25 friends around you, and a teacher, who explains you the things, you don’t understand… There is not more pleasant lesson than it J
History = Factology ?!? March 9, 2008Posted by richards in Uncategorized.
I haven’t written in my blog for a year, but now I have very serious reason to do it – my bad grade( it’s not 2) in history. I have very variable and uncertain attitude toward the history, but anyway, I found it useful, important and interesting so far. It’s true that the way of teaching any subject affects the opinion of the students toward it (althought it shouldn’t be that way; the students shouldn’t care about the teachers and their way of teaching so much) and now I really began to hate it, althought it was among my favourire subjects in 10th and 9th class.
My main argument is that our history teacher wants us to know soooo manyyy dates and places that our memory just runs mad. On out test, there were about 20 dates and 10 very unfamous towns we should have exactly known, and the bad thing is that I don’t exaggarete at all…We had to name all the countries in East Asia, occupied by Japan. We had to name all African countries, where the Second World War has taken place. We had to write the exact place and date of the meetings of Stalin, Churchill and Ruzvlet…and many other places and dates.
As we are made to study such things, or more exactly to ‘grind’ (зубрим) them, I asked myself one question… is the main point of history knowing dates, names and places??…or helping us make effect-result realtionships, knowing the others’ mistakes and trying not to repeat their mistakes again, knowing why everyhting now happens, what has provoked it, is it logical; who, where and why has interests, etc? I conclude that the way we study history in Bulgaria stands for the first – focusing on knowing many facts, and little attention to the relationships between them. It even sounds very funny for me, but on our test there was no question why and how; all the questions were: when. where, which and who…we had only to write facts, without explaining them 😦
I’ll also upload photos of the test, which I had to make fastly and secretly, because we had only about 2-3 minutes to view our test, before giving it back to the teacher.
I think that we should study history in order to explain the things that has ever happened, thus we’ll able to predict the things, which are going to happen. We should learn about the effect-results relationships and try to find their logics and point; we should know what a country has done, why and how, so we’ll be able to explain the things happening lately…. BUT Mr. Popov doesn’t think like me… he wants us just to know many facts, dates, places, towns, names of presidents, ministers, even of soldiers sometimes :d
I also asked myself 3 more questions:
1.Why are all the reference books created?..if we ocasionally need any date/town,etc. we’ll look in the book and find it…ot perhaps we should learn all dates and facts by heart 😛
2.How big is our memory and if it’s full of dates/names,etc. will it work properly?
3.On which questions is it more important for us to answer – where, when, who and which or why, how, because of what and what are the reaons and results?
Please think over that questions and answer me 🙂
When we discussed the prosperity in the life, one girl said that only 1% depends on the luck!I would say that you need at least 30-40% luck in order to succeed in the life! The luck determines how lucky your life will be,how lucky things will happen to you!If you have luck, you’ll meet ‘the true people’ in the most appropriate moment! If you have luck you’ll find the best well-paid job for you and you’ll have good family, good wife, etc.!Of course you need to be very strenuous and hard-working if you want to succeed, but the luck is also very important!
For example,if you have a really good luck, you will get the jackpot 🙂 or will find a wallet with much money fallen on the street,or you’ll win much money on gambling, etc.!Also,if a stupid man,who doesn’t know anything, but who has much luck, goes to TOEFL or SAT test,he would just guess the right answers and would pass the exam with excellent mark 🙂 !So the luck have very big inluence on our life! The luck can play tricks with us!For example, you are very responsible,hard-working and you’re the most suitable for a well-paid job,if you don’t have luck, when going to the interview you will be soiled by a poddle,or you’ll come upon a traffic jam,or will wake up too late and miss the interview and the job!
The luck is essential for all prospering people! My main idea is that you should exert many efforts and be very hard-working and study a lot in order to succeed in the life, but you also need much luck!If have bad luck, unlucky things will happen to you and you will miss your opportunities! For example,if you can sing well and you have good luck,a good producer will notice you and offer you a job and you will become a superstar! But if you don’t have luck, only tour close friends and your pet 🙂 will know about your talent! So the luck influence and determines the “successfulness” of our lives and you need much luck in order to succeed in the life and find good job, family, etc! The luck is extremely important, isn’t it?!!! 🙂
The animals are one of the things,I love most! They ‘decorate’ the world, make it motley! In fact, the most of them(99% of the vertebrates) don’t do nothing bad to us!I’m shocked to see how some people ‘love’ to kill the animals, even in brutal way!So far, billions of innocent animals have beem killed, some just for pleasure!I think it should change and the animal murder must be very limited!I’m afraid of the fatal consequences of this terrible process!
Other thing, which trouble me is the pollution and destruction of the nature! The nature landscapes are imposing sight! They inspire many people and make the earth ‘beautiful’!But some people destroy the beautiful forests, pollute the unbounded sky,the impressive ocean and the earth,of course! As I think,I can’t find the motives of these people – ‘nature-destroyers’ to destroy the nature,to kill the animals!
Isn’t the nature majestic?!Aren’t the animals unique wealth of the life?!Why Do we,the people, kill them with no feelings?!!!What should happen in order to understand the prise of killing animals and polluting the nature?!Why we regard the animals as items, not as living creature, what they are?!What’s your opinion of the question 🙂 and what steps should be taken in order to save the wealth of the nature and the life?! 🙂
This week,I’m excused from school, but I can go in any classes in any days! When I began to choose which classes to visit,I automatically expelled literature! My mum criticized me for that, saying”It’s main subject, you should go”,then I explained her the thing,I’ll explained to you!
Why we should study literature so much?!!!As I think over it,where’s the point?!In literature we study what any author has thought and felt when writing any creation, what’s his style of thinking and expressing! In fact, nobody cares about that, noone is interested in any author’s thoughts and feelings! And how would that help us to prosper in the life!Who’s gonna ask us what the way of expressing of Molier is!The time, taken in studying the complex theory in literature and the way of thinking of any writer should be taken in much more useful way, isn’t it?!Improving any foreign language,or knowing the structure of the humen, the air,the water, etc.;knowing about the demographic problems, electric current, etc. would be much more useful to us,than knowing any writer’s feelings! In the life,we would have much benefit,if knowing these things, not Molier’s way of writing and the means of expression! And we must ‘harass’ our mind with that 4 times a week, excluding the homework!Isn’t that very unfair-to study literature so much; and the other much more important and useful subject less?! After all, what’s more important – to know any writer’s feelings,or to improve the English,or biologiy,or geography, etc?!!! 🙂
